Busy days with fixing the fridge

For those who are wondering about how I've been doing... :)

I've been fixing the fridge and writing a journal paper. On top of that, I had one of my college friends moving to Maryland to work at NASA, I also have been shopping with her for a couple of days. So I was pretty busy for the past couple weeks.

I bought many anime DVD box sets: Utena, Neon genesis Evangelion platimun edition, Spirit warrior (Kujaku oh - the peacock king), Zeta Gundam vol.2 and 3. Now I'm watching Utena. It's an anime that has a cover of a shojo manga (girls' comic) but beneath that, it has a very pungent message about human beings - people. It's not a typical girls' comics that usually focus on relationships. I highly recommend to watch it.

I'm planning to post the reviews of Utena in my Korean blog; Since it doesn't take much time to translate, (actually I'm writing in English on the same subject basically. I won't translate my own writings!) I'll post the reviews here as well. Stay tuned! :)

P.S. By the way, folks (A, JM, G), how was Zeta Gundam vol. 1?

  • wow - finally an update! was wondering what you were doing. G here btw! :) I've been really busy as well - I keep repeating the same thing to people, so I won;t repeat allt he things i am doing here. suffice it to say busy. I want to watch the girl anima you were talking about. I'll have to borrow it off you. I haven't had a chance to watch the other one... maybe this weekend... good luckw ith the journal paper!

    Long time no ... read?

    So, how cool is the Evangelion box set you got? Where did you buy it?
    Soon I'm going to need some guidance to revive my anime knowledge.

    I dunno why ppl want me to use my brains in my research rather than on anime facts.

    And since everyone is saying the same, I've been busy too, but REALLY busy, not PhD easy-stuff busy. But now and again I find time to go play Sonic Riders.

    When is it that we are going to play again?

  • G - I guess you have the same fate as I do; being a grad student in an phys/engineering. Are you planning to graduate soon? (Well, I'm assuming that you're busy because of thet or busy planning wedding? :) ) "Utena" is a good anime. It may look strange (people in the anime are actually not normal in many ways...) but you know everyone has someting in their life that they don't want others to know which can be either serious or nothing serious. The anime describes those people's minds in a very visually stylish way.

  • Valardur// I got it from Amazon. They had a special price for the Eva DVD box set (~$45). It was just a few weeks ago so if you want one check their website. :) I took some photos of the Eva DVD box set to post a review on the series. I'll post it sooner or later....

    So I go to amazon, but I want to start buying everything (Evangelion, Lain, Boogiepop Phantom, Cowboy Beebop) Have you seen how many different DVDs of Cowboy Beebop they are? Same episodes just different features.
    Its Insane I tell you. And expensive.

    OK, so have you heard about a series call "Full metal panic Fumofu?" It's suppose to be really good, but I do not where to rent it so I can see if it worth buying.
    I saw an episode one, and I gotta say it was as hilarious as Slayers THE BEST ANIME COMEDY EVEEEEER. I bought it allready.

    OK, this is going to long. When are we playing again and exchanging anime?

  • WOW. That platinum collection is supposed to have 5.1 in JAPANESE. THATS IT. ALVARO GO BUY IT INMEDIATELY.

    But there are no other extras... which is ok if the other collections sets have crappy extras, but we don't know, do we?

  • I actually didn't see many anime released after 2000 which is when I came to the US. :( However I used to subscribe a Japanese Newtype magazine for more than a year so I've heard about "Full metal panic" (I think its comic version was on Newtype as well.)
    Eva platinum box collection is very good - sound and picture quality. Just there is NO EXTRA what so ever! I think the individual release has a commentary from the voice actors. (www.dvdvisionjapan.com) <-- has a review. And I'll post my review as well. :)

    That website of yours rated them also pretty well. I'll have to buy them... hmm that is something I forgot to check at PURDUE... ANIME stores. Dang it.

    Now, apparently the other DVD set "EVANGELION perfect collection" I guess. has in extras the characters bios and ANGELS info.
    That might be good to understand what is going on.

    But I really would like it in Japanese 5.1, which the other collection lacks.

    Which one should I get?

  • Good good, let Juan buy all the anime and then I'll watch it.

    I enjoyed the only episode I have watched of Gundam, I'll try to watch the rest soon. Talking about old anime, do you know if there is a way to obtain the original TV series of "Space Cobra"?
